Discuss lines from the scene that foreshadow tragedy:
Mercutio is talking to Benvolio and says "Alas, poor Romeo! He is already dead, stabbed with a white wench's black eye, shot through the ear with a love song, the very pin of his heart cleft with the blind bow-boy's butt shaft. And he is a man to encounter Tybalt?" (Act 11, Scene 1V, 13-16). This is foreshadowing Romeo's death through "stabbed with a white wench's black eye" because the audience already knows that Romeo will die, but do not know why or how. This foreshadows that he will be stabbed because of his love, Juliet.
When Mercutio sings to Juliet's Nurse and Romeo, " An old hare hoar, and an old hare hoar, Is very good meat it Lent, But a hare that is hoar, Is too much for score, When it hoars ere it be spent." (116, ii, 114 - 119) what is the meaning of this little song he sings and why did he then changes the subject by asking Romeo to if he is going to go home for lunch?
Answering Jenna T.'s Question: Why do you think Mercutio and Benvolio treat the nurse so viciously?
I think because the Nurse belongs to the Capulets and she is the nurse of Juliet. So because of that Benvolio, especially Mercutio, behaves badly with her.
Towards the end of the act the Nuse is talking to Romeo, and she asks him "' Doth not rosemary and Romeo begin both with a letter?'" The foot note says that rosemary was a token of rememberance between lovers and for the dead. The Nurse's question forshadows Juliets death because Romeo is her love, and will be the cause of her death.
I believe that the reason they treat the nurse so viciously is for the same reason they dislike Lord Capulet....the feud has caused everyone to become well viscious with each other and much hatred without reasoning.
Answering Jenna T. Why do you think Mercutio and Benvolio treat the nurse so viciously? Mercutio and Benvolio are impolite while acknowledging Nurse. Nurse is disturbed by their unnecessary sexual references. Romeo tells her that they make crude remarks because, “that loves to hear himself talk, and will speak more in a minute than he will stand to in a month.” (118) Romeo implies that they are just being immature.
Romeo and Mercution are best friends, but when Mercutio asked Romeo were he had gone to after the party he replys "'Pardon, good Mercutio, my business was great, and in such a case as mine a man may strain courtesy'"(2,iv,44-45)Why doesn't Rome tell Mercutio about Juliet?
Discuss lines from the scene that foreshadow tragedy.
When the Nurse is reaching Romeo she is discussing how much she wanted Juliet to marry Paris, but instead, Juliet is in love with a Montague. When talking to Romeo she questions him as saying "doth not rosemary and Romeo begin both with a letter?" Romeo replies with the simiple "Ay, Nurse, what of that? Both with an R." Since Rosmary was a remembrance between lovers and for the dead, The Nurse implies that these two lovers will indeed end up dead. Because of the fact the Nurse makes the notion that Romeo and Rosemary fit, she is forshawdowing that the fact that these two enimies are in love, but are yet enimies, they shall perish together. With this little speech Shakespeare helps foreshawdow the ending of these passionate lovers.
i think that the nurse tries to dealy telling the Juliet of what her beloved Romeo said because she is afraid that if she does tell her, than it will be "real", and it might mean that because she knows about them, that in turn she would have to protect Juliet [as her "nurse"] but at the same time when she says "...where is your mother?" (act 2, sc.4, L56)she [the nurse] knows that she will have to keep this a secret from the Capulet and the Lady Capulet.
to answer Jaycee A.'s question, Mercutio is rude to Nurse because he(Mercutio) likes to hear himself talk. Romeo makes it clear to the Nurse that Mercutio is "a gentlemean, Nurse, that loves to hear himself talk, and will speak more in a minute than he will stand to in a month"(Act II, scene iv, 126-127).
Why do you think that this scene in particular was not set in the normal flow of 10 syllables per line? As you clearly see the characters just continue speaking without emphasis on words like them would be said in other scenes. Why do you believe that William Shakespeare wrote this scene this way?
Question: Why do you think shakespeare gave Mercutio the characteristic of perverted, and sexual? He keeps making jokes to romeo about the girl, for example, "a great natural that runs lolling up and down to hide his bauble in a hole" this is relating to sex. did Shakespeare do this to be funny? or to prrove how perverted Mercutio is? explain.
When Mercutio is responding to Benvolio he makes a long remark proclaiming,"Alas, poor Romeo! He is already dead, stabbed with a white wench's black eye, shot through the ear with a love song, teh very pin of his heart cleft with that blind boe-boy's butt shaft(act2,4,105), Mercutio is forshadowing the future of Romeo's death as is said so in the beginning of the novel. Romeo is going to die seeing into the eye's of his love Juliet and having her voice of words be like a heavinly song in his ear. Romeo's heart had been hit by cupids arrow to were Romeo's "heart has been split by blind cupids arrow"(2,4,105). In Conclusion the above quote shows a forshadow, due to the fact that Romeo will later die in a tragic death.
Answering: Why do Benvolio and Mercutio treat the nurse so visciously? Well I think that Mercutio thinks that beautiful,(young) women are the only that should be respected as well as noticed, when Mercutio reply's to peter " Good Peter, give her her fan to hide her face, Her fan is prettier thatn her face" (2,4,115). Mercutio is a very ungentlemen like man, for it is no suprise that he is treating any other person like that. For Benvolio, he did not say anything that caught my eye as far as being cruel to the nurse. Also if the gentlemen new that the nurse was maid of the Capulets that could be another reason why they were so rude.
When the nurse say's " But, I'll warrant you , when I say so , she looks as pale as any clout in the bersal world. Doth not rosemary and Romeo begin both with a letter"(2,4,122)?, and when Romeo reply's" Ay, Nurse, what of that? Both with an R"(2,4,122). What is the Nurse trying to explain to Romeo about the names both starting with R's? Why doesn't Romeo understand?
When Romeo said "ill use the rope ladder to climb over the walls at night, then ill meet Juliet joyfully and in secret." This is foreshadow for bad things to come for Romeo because he wants to meet her in secret and get married, which we know doesnt happen, and his plans are ruined.

Why is Mercutio (and Benvolio too sometimes) so rude to the Nurse while she was walking with Peter, while looking for Romeo?
When Mercutio sings to Juliet's Nurse and Romeo, " An old hare hoar, and an old hare hoar, Is very good meat it Lent, But a hare that is hoar, Is too much for score, When it hoars ere it be spent." What does Benvolio mean when he says, "Alas, poor Romeo! He is already dead, stabbed with a white wench's black eye"(104)?
Why do you think Juliet trusts her nurse and peter enough to tell them about her and Romeo?
Answering Ernesto's question.

To answer Jenna T.'s question:
Benvolio and Mercutio are rude to Nurse because they are extremely immature and and full of them selves.
Mercutio uses numerous puns throughout the text. What might this suggest about his character?
to answer Jaycee A.'s question, Mercutio is rude to Nurse because he(Mercutio) likes to hear himself talk. Romeo makes it clear to the Nurse that Mercutio is "a gentlemean, Nurse, that loves to hear himself talk, and will speak more in a minute than he will stand to in a month"(Act II, scene iv, 126-127).
When Mercutio tells Romeo that he faked them out, do you think Mercution is jealous? Or is he just mad that Romeo faked them out? Which one? explain.

When Mercutio is responding to Benvolio he makes a long remark proclaiming,"Alas, poor Romeo! What is the Nurse trying to explain to Romeo about the names both starting with R's? Why doesn't Romeo understand?
Why does Benvolio treat the nurse like crap when she walks in, I thought he was all about peace and being nice?
When Romeo said "ill use the rope ladder to climb over the walls at night, then ill meet Juliet joyfully and in secret." This is foreshadow for bad things to come for Romeo because he wants to meet her in secret and get married, which we know doesnt happen, and his plans are ruined.
How would you charcterize Mercutio at the beggining of Act 2 scene 4?
Teacher Question
Mercutio, Romeo's friend, forshadows that Romeo will face tragedy when he scoffs at Romeo's passion saying, "Alas, poor Romeo! He is already dead, stabbed with a white wench's black eye, shot through the ear with a love song, the very pin of his heart cleft with the blind bow-boy's butt shaft. And he is a man to encounter Tybalt?" (Act 11, Scene 1V, 13-16)
Why does Benvolio treat Tybalt so badly? When ever Tybalt's name comes, up why does he get so mad?
